Brad Pitt grew up Southern Baptist—church, Sunday school, prayer, and the Bible were all part of his upbringing. But somewhere along the way, Pitt walked away from that faith, eventually identifying as an atheist before embracing a much more ambiguous spirituality. Recently, Pitt opened up about ending his seven-year period of sobriety, while also speaking candidly about depression, mental health struggles, and some of the darkest moments of his life. However, Pitt is far from alone. Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Hugh Jackman, the Jonas Brothers, and countless other celebrities were raised in Christian homes or churches, only to later distance themselves from the faith they grew up with. So what happened? What causes someone surrounded by Christianity to eventually reject it? And when celebrities explain why they walked away, are they rejecting biblical Christianity or something entirely different? Most importantly, what can Christians do to call them back to the faith in which they were raised?
